Description

Savor the rich and creamy Texas Roadhouse Butter Chicken Skillet, featuring tender chicken breasts seasoned with a smoky, slightly spicy blend of spices, simmered in a luscious buttery cheddar cheese sauce. This skillet recipe is perfect for a comforting weeknight dinner served alongside mashed potatoes, rice, or warm dinner rolls.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Seasonings

  • 1 1/2 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Sauce

  • 3 tablespoon unsalted butter, divided
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

Optional Garnishes

  • Sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Season Chicken: In a bowl, toss the chicken pieces with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, chili powder, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and black pepper. This seasoning blend will infuse the chicken with irresistible flavor.
  2. Sear Chicken: Heat the olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned chicken and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set it aside.
  3. Make Sauce: In the same skillet, add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and the chicken broth. Scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan, as these will add depth to the sauce. Stir in the heavy cream and bring the mixture to a simmer.
  4. Add Cheese: Gradually stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until it’s melted and the sauce is smooth and creamy.
  5. Combine & Finish: Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and toss it to coat in the buttery, cheesy sauce. Simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the dish to heat through.
  6. Garnish & Serve: Sprinkle the fresh parsley and optional sliced green onions over the top. Serve the dish hot, accompanied by mashed potatoes, rice, or warm dinner rolls for a truly satisfying meal.

Notes

  • You can adjust the cayenne pepper to control the heat level or omit it for a milder flavor.
  • Use fresh chicken breasts for the best texture and flavor.
  • For a lower-fat version, substitute heavy cream with half-and-half and reduce butter slightly.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the creamy sauce at its best.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
