Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Vegetables
- 1 pound ground chuck
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can petite diced tomatoes
Spices and Seasonings
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
Other Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 8 hot dogs
- 8 low carb tortillas or wraps
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F and prepare a 9×13 inch casserole dish by spraying it with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Make Chili Sauce: In a medium saucepan, combine the cooked ground chuck, petite diced tomatoes, water, chili powder, ground cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, and dried oregano. Bring this mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer for 8-10 minutes until the chili thickens slightly.
- Prepare Casserole Base: Spoon some of the prepared chili sauce into the bottom of the sprayed casserole dish to create a flavorful base layer.
- Assemble Hot Dogs: Roll each hot dog snugly in a low-carb tortilla, placing them seam-side down on top of the chili sauce in the casserole dish.
- Add Remaining Chili and Cheese: Pour the remaining chili sauce evenly over the hot dogs, then sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top to cover the entire dish.
- Bake: Place the casserole dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and the casserole is set.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the casserole to cool slightly before serving. Optionally, add your favorite toppings such as chopped onions, jalapeños, or sour cream.
Notes
- Use low carb tortillas to keep this dish keto-friendly.
- You can substitute ground chuck with ground beef or turkey if preferred.
- Adjust the spice level by adding more chili powder or a pinch of cayenne pepper.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
- For added flavor, consider browning the hot dogs before rolling them in tortillas.
