Instructions

  1. Combine sugar and water: In a medium saucepan, combine the 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 cup of water.
  2. Heat and stir: Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved. This usually takes about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Simmer: Once the sugar is dissolved, bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Let it simmer for about 1 minute. This helps thicken the syrup slightly.
  4. Cool completely: Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the simple syrup cool completely.
  5. Prepare the lemons: Before juicing, roll the lemons firmly on the countertop.
  6. Juice the lemons: Cut the lemons in half and juice them using a citrus juicer.
  7. Strain the juice (optional): If you prefer a smoother lemonade, strain the lemon juice through a fine-mesh sieve.
  8. Combine simple syrup and lemon juice: In a large pitcher, combine the cooled simple syrup and the freshly squeezed lemon juice.
  9. Add water: Add the 6 cups of cold water to the pitcher.
