Description

This Easy Cinnamon Roll Casserole is a delightful and effortless breakfast bake made with refrigerated cinnamon rolls, soaked in a sweet maple custard and baked to golden perfection. Ideal for weekend brunch or special occasions, this recipe combines the classic flavors of cinnamon rolls with a comforting casserole twist, offering a soft and gooey treat that everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale

Cinnamon Roll Base

  • 2 tubes refrigerated cinnamon rolls (8 cinnamon rolls each — 351 grams or 12 oz)
  • 1/4 cup salted butter, melted

Custard Mixture

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the casserole.
  2. Prepare Cinnamon Rolls: Open both tubes of refrigerated cinnamon rolls, unroll them, and cut into roughly 1-inch pieces. Arrange these pieces evenly across the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish to form the base.
  3. Make Custard Mixture: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, pure maple syrup, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.
  4. Combine Custard and Rolls: Gently pour the custard mixture evenly over the cut-up cinnamon roll pieces in the baking dish, ensuring that all pieces are well saturated to absorb the custard.
  5. Add Butter Topping: Drizzle the melted salted butter evenly over the top of the casserole to enrich the flavor and aid browning.
  6. Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the casserole has puffed up, is golden brown around the edges, and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow the casserole to cool for at least 10 to 15 minutes before serving to let it set. Serve warm for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Make sure to use refrigerated cinnamon rolls for ease and best texture.
  • Letting the casserole cool slightly helps it set for cleaner slices.
  • You can substitute pure maple syrup with honey or brown sugar if preferred.
  • For extra richness, consider adding a cream cheese glaze on top after baking.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated gently before serving.
