Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 2 (8 oz) cans Pillsbury Refrigerated Crescent Dinner Rolls

Sauce

  • 1 (10 3/4 oz) can cream of chicken soup, undiluted
  • 3/4 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream

Filling

  • 4 oz cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 4 tbsp butter (room temperature)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/3 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 2 large cooked chicken breasts, finely chopped (about 2 cups)
  • 1/2 cup finely grated cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 tsp seasoning salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 24 tbsp heavy whipping cream

Topping

  • 12 cups grated cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 350ºF (175ºC). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish generously with butter to prevent sticking and add flavor.
  2. Make Cheese Sauce: In a small pot over medium heat, combine the undiluted cream of chicken soup, 3/4 cup grated cheddar cheese, and 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream. Stir continuously until the cheese melts and the sauce is smooth. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Prepare Filling Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the room temperature cream cheese, butter, and garlic powder using a fork until smooth and creamy. Add the finely chopped cooked chicken breasts, chopped onion, 1/2 cup finely grated cheddar cheese, seasoning salt, black pepper, and 2 to 4 tablespoons of heavy whipping cream. Mix well to combine evenly.
  4. Assemble Crescent Rolls: Unroll the refrigerated crescent rolls. Place about 1 tablespoon of the chicken mixture on the larger side of each crescent triangle. Roll them up starting at the larger end, sealing the filling inside.
  5. Layer in Baking Dish: Spoon a portion of the prepared cream of chicken cheese sauce onto the bottom of the greased baking dish. Arrange the filled crescent rolls in a single layer over the sauce.
  6. Add Sauce and Cheese Topping: Pour the remaining cream of chicken sauce evenly over the crescent rolls. Sprinkle 1 to 2 cups of grated cheddar cheese over the top to create a cheesy crust.
  7. Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
  8. Serve: Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy this hearty, creamy Chicken Crescent Roll Casserole warm.

Notes

  • For best results, ensure the cream cheese and butter are at room temperature for easier mixing.
  • The amount of heavy whipping cream in the filling can be adjusted to achieve your desired consistency.
  • You can substitute cooked shredded rotisserie chicken for the cooked chicken breasts for convenience.
  • If you prefer a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to the filling.
  • The casserole can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated before baking; just add a few extra minutes to the baking time if baking from cold.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven for best texture.
